Tips To Shed Those Extra Kilos
Before Wedding

A beach bash or a tinsel mandap? Everything can be optional whether it's wearing a saree instead of lehnga or ditching a sangeet for a band, but there is one thing that can't be overlooked- your LOOK! Even a fit and healthy person is bound to feel out of shape seeing the D-day approaching, as a slim body is indeed a hot button in Indian weddings.

So we try to think of as many ways as possible to achieve desired weight goals in the limited time. You may be a bit flabby or overweight, but you can certainly achieve your dream weight by sheer determination and patience. Below are some easy tips that will help you get a shape that you will be able to pull off even after your honeymoon period

  • Don't get stressed

It is very easy and common to get stressed during the wedding preparations. The key is to not getting stressed as it is one of the highest contributing factors of weight gain. Most of us tend to overeat when we are under stress. You will have to plan a number of events in a short time, but do not let that affect your health. Plan to the tiniest detail. It may seem cumbersome, but it really does help because it prevents unwanted mishaps.
  • Sleep well

As mentioned earlier, stress can affect sleep patterns and so does the planning of events round the clock. An undisturbed 8 hours of sleep is essential to keep yourself healthy. Do not compromise on it. Keep the phone on silent while sleeping – any and all emergencies can be dealt with the next day. Take a hot, relaxing shower before bed and avoid taking caffeine in the evening to get peaceful, blissful sleep.
  • Stay Hydrated

Your busy schedule often compromises the seemingly unimportant water requirement. But staying hydrated is also the key to weight loss. Keep a 1-litre bottle with you at all times and take little sips consistently, it will keep you away from unhealthy snacks. Drink fresh healthy juices if you get bored of water.
  • Sample eating

You might require to eat and test a variety of food while creating the menus for the wedding and related events. Make it a point to eat as less as you can as most of the dishes might not even make it to the menu. Eat only a bite, as it would let you know the taste better than eating an entire dish.
  • Track food

A very effective way to keep a check on what you eat during this time is to keep a food journal. Track your food so that you know how much calories you are consuming and how much you need to exercise. Make some changes in your meal plan by adding fibre rich snacks, healthy vegetable juices or protein bar. You can also start your diet plan if you have enough time. Consult your dietitian before starting any meal plan. In any case, don't skip meals to squeeze into your dress.
  • Limit alcohol

Not controlling your alcohol consumption is one way to wipe out all your hard work on weight control. Even if you enjoy alcohol or get carried away when drinking at social events, make it a point to not do so. If possible, cut back on alcohol completely.
  • Stay active

It is safe to assume that you will be moving around a lot for your wedding preparations. That does not equate to you being active in a healthy way. You may be making all the necessary appointments and feel a sense of completion of work – while sitting in front of the computer all the while! You need to be active in a way that you are constantly moving throughout the day and burning up calories while not getting bogged down by your responsibilities. Make phone calls while walking around the room. Set appointments in a park instead of a restaurant.

If you cannot make juices at home, then you can buy healthy juices from the market too. Make sure they are pasteurized. Pasteurization helps ensure elimination of microbes-causing foodborne diseases and increase the shelf-life of the juice.

Last, but most important. Be realistic. Losing 10-20 Kg in a few weeks is unrealistic. So, go for small but realistic goal. We believe in celebrating all body shapes and sizes and this article is only for people who are looking to lose weight. Losing weight should not be associated with pressure from friends and family members.
