In India, traditions not only signify the culture, but they also bring together the whole family for the celebration. And Indian culture and fasting go hand in hand. Various types of fasts are observed at a different time of the year. One such fast famous among them is "Karva Chauth".
The Karva refers to an earthen pot with a spout, which is a symbol of peace and prosperity and Chauth means 4th day. Karva Chauth is celebrated on the 4th day of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. On this day, women fast as a penance for the husband's long and healthy life. It is one of the most difficult fasts where women eat only before sunrise and break the fast only after seeing the moon. Not even a single drop of water is consumed throughout the day.
Looking at the difficulty level of the fast, it is hard to bear with it, especially when women today go out and work. The day-long fast can make you uncomfortable, leading to issues such as acidity, nausea, low blood pressure, fainting, hot flushes or no energy at all. So, this year we bring you some tips to keep your energy bank full and help you survive through the day.
Traditionally, Karva Chauth begins with eating Sargi very early in the morning, before sunrise. The Sargi consists of a variety of food, including salted vegetables, flatbreads, fruits, nuts, dry-fruits and sweets. As you cannot consume even a drop of water till the moon appears, you must be sure to fill up your stomach with Sargi food.
Enjoy the festival and fast in a healthy way with these tips. Wish you a very happy Karva Chauth.
