8 tips to have a healthier Christmas and New Years

Skin Care Tips for
the Party Season

With the holiday season around the corner, office parties, family get togethers and Sunday brunches with friends are a common sight. But with the holiday season, unhealthy food choices, loads of junk food and sweets, and too much experimenting with makeup can take a toll on our skin and hair. However, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few tips to keep you focused and to have a skin-friendly party time.

  • Stick to your Routine

Well, at least try to. Late night parties can make you forget that your exhausted body needs to function as per the same biological clock that it is used to, otherwise it'll start complaining. Lack of sleep can make your eyes puffy and cause dark circles. Excessive make-up can clog your pores and too much alcohol will make you dehydrated. Make sure to cleanse, tone and moisturize every day to keep your skin clear and radiant. Also, get your beauty sleep, which is 7 to 8 hours, and fuel your body adequately with healthy food.
  • Stay Simple

During party time, a lot of people will be tempted to try a variety of makeup and use products that they had been yearning so long. But make sure that you don't go overboard with the makeup. In fact, it is advisable to not experiment a lot and if possible, stick to your usual products. This will prevent breakouts from the use of excessive or new products.
  • Eat a healthy dinner before holiday parties

It can be a great temptation to "eat at the party". The greasy chicken, the amazing gravy and veggies, and a large number of fried snacks can make anyone cave in. Keep all those hunger pangs at bay by eating a healthy dinner before a holiday party and to treat yourself, keep room for dessert that you can enjoy at the party. After all, you've earned all the sweetness after a healthy dinner, and aren't holidays about all the desserts you can get your hands on?
  • Hydrate your hair

Styling tools can cause your hair to become dry, dull and eventually break. Thus, you need to moisturize or hydrate and protect your hair before you go ahead with using any hair tools. This will ensure that your hair stays in place, looking great and protected. You can put some hair oil on wet hair to tame frizz and flyaways.
  • Don't forget to exercise

When you exercise, there is increased blood circulation which gives you radiant and glowing skin. It also eradicates problems like blackheads, dirt, and oil-free skin regulates skin hormones, prevent radical damage and much more. You can easily incorporate exercise into your day to day life by walking to work, taking the stairs instead of elevators, parking your car away from the main venue, dancing, grocery shopping and gardening. Exercise alone cannot make you look and feel gorgeous, it's one of the significant parts of your skin care regime along with the right skin care products, right diet, and regular visits to the dermatologist.
  • Moisturize your skin well

If you are wearing a dress that exposes your arms and legs, make sure your skin looks hydrated. In the hassle of getting ready, you may skip this step, but make sure you don't. Your skin needs to be thoroughly moisturized. Also, to add a gleaming appeal, mix a tad of loose shimmer powder or foundation with the moisturizer before applying.
  • Drink lots of water

Drinking at least 6 to 8 cups of water a day helps to get glowing skin and makes it look healthy. It also detoxifies your body and keeps wrinkles at bay, giving you a youth-enhancing glow.
  • Don't compromise with comfort

Nothing spoils an outfit more than a person not comfortable in their own skin! When you are trying out the outfit and heels for the event, make sure you do not compromise on the comfort factor. Ask yourself, are you comfortable wearing a dress that short? or the heels that high? If you aren't, go for other options, as you don't want the cameras to capture a worried and uncomfortable you, who is constantly adjusting her outfit!

We forget that our skin is essentially a reflection of all kinds of internal and external stress in the form of skin problems like redness, dry skin, dark circles and breakouts. Taking time to relax and unwind is absolutely crucial. And when it comes to self-care, small acts go a long way - few minutes of slow breathing, a good warm soak in the bath, aerobic exercise or a little yoga will help you combat many skin conditions.
