How does Aloe Vera help
with constipation?

Also known as a wonder plant, aloe vera has a plethora of benefits. From skin problems to diabetes, aloe vera is a healer and maintainer of health. Amongst the hundreds of health issues, aloe vera deals with constipation, an issue that is extremely common.

Constipation is a problem where the stools stay in the large intestines for a long time, causing discomfort, slow metabolism, and sometimes even sickness. Some of the discomforts that come with constipation include not being able to defecate, abdominal pain, nausea, and much more.

Aloe vera has been used to treat constipation for a long time due to the natural laxative properties it has that help clean our system naturally. Although aloe vera is proven to soothe discomfort and help with constipation, it is not advised to take it unmonitored as it contains Aloin which can cause diarrhoea and become unsafe. Consumption of Aloe Vera juice without Aloin is safe.

Causes of constipation

There are many causes of constipation. It can occur due to dehydration, i.e. when the body does not get enough water, lack of fibre in the diet, lack of exercise, severe stress, and other physical factors.

How does aloe vera help?

Aloe vera contains a wide range of active components, including vitamin A, vitamin C, Vitamin E, vitamin B12, folic acid and choline amongst other minerals, enzymes, and active sugars, hormones, and laxatives. It is a super herb th at can be used to soothe, cure, and help with a lot of problems of the skin, metabolism, and immunity.

Aloe vera is proven to contain antibacterial properties and natural healing agents which soothe and heal stomach ulcers. Aloe vera is also very effective to restore the stomach lining back to health.

How to consume?

  • Aloe vera can be consumed either as juice, capsules, or gel. In any form, aloe vera is a powerful laxative and should be taken sparingly, or not at all.
  • You can either directly buy an aloe vera juice online that has no Aloin in it or there are ways to use the aloe plant to make a laxative at home.
  • Aloe vera juice should be consumed with another juice to dilute the taste as aloe vera alone has a very strong taste. Aloe gel should not be consumed more than 2 tsp mixed in a juice or water for best results.
  • Aloe vera capsules should not be taken more than twice a day over a period of 3-4 days. Aloe vera capsules should preferably be taken with calming teas like peppermint or green tea to soothe the irritant side effects of aloe vera.

Drinking lots of water and increasing the fibre content in your diet should help; only take laxatives after thoroughly trying other means of improvement. Maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes less junk food and a nutrient-rich diet, sufficient water, enough exercise, and proper sleep. A healthy metabolism is key for soothing constipation and it can be achieved through some lifestyle changes as well. And again, see a doctor if the problem of constipation persists.
